Homework in first grade is meant to reinforce skills we are learning at school, build good habits, and give families a glimpse into what we are working on in the classroom. Homework should be meaningful and manageable, with a focus on reading, foundational skills, and practice rather than busywork.
As the year progresses, homework will grow along with our students and adjust to meet their learning needs. Most importantly, reading together at home is one of the best things you can do to support your first grader!
For homework, a weekly homework packet will be sent home every Wednesday and is due back the following Wednesday.
Please refer to the weeks Homework Coversheet for additional details.
Homework will include reading with, and to, your child for 10-15 minutes, while completing the reading log, a math worksheet/game/story, letter-sound fluency practice, and penmanship or writing practice.
